Network problem w/2 XP Home computers

I have just upgraded two computers to XP Home. The "host" computer "sees" the client computer
but won't "handshake". The client computer is not accepting any connection to the host.
I have:
checked the cables; set up the LAN (even though the two computers don't communicate);
set up the enable bios on each one; checked that the ICF is off on each one. I have run the network
wizard innumerable times with no success.
The host computer has full internet access but no file sharing with the client computer.
I have no doubt that someone will help with this problem - there are a LOT of helping hands out there!

Please check the ip address in host and guest PC's

network property, make sure they'r in the same group,
(example:host IP 255.255.111.111/guest IP 255.255.111.114)
restart then see what hepens.

Have done the two IP addresses to the closest - Host xxx.xxx.0.1 + Client xxx.xxx.0.2
Still not connecting the two computers. The LAN is working, but cannot see the client.
Strange but true. Thank you for trying, though.

I'm having the same problem - used all of the solutions I
can find but can't get the machines to talk. They keep
denying each other access. I've even opened up "guest"
accounts but that hasn't helped. (It's funny, the XP
computers can see and map a network drive to my Mac G4
though!).
