Hi, I’ve a home network with desktop running XP SP 1a and laptop
running SP2. Connected to the desktop is an HP printer. I’m finding
that now, after a m/board u/g on the desktop, I need to have this PC
on in order to print from my laptop. Previously desktop had SP2
installed, and I could print from laptop without desktop being
switched on.

Can anyone explain why this is, and how I can again print from laptop
without desktop in use?

Thanks.

You possibly had "Wake on Lan" enabled on the Desktop.

That’s possible, though not something I deliberately enabled. I’ll
recheck that over the next day or so.
Apart from the Service Pack difference, could there be any other
setting I’m missing?

Wake on Lan is a setting in the BIOS.

Yes, tnx, though as I said, it’s not been deliberately enabled.
