Network printers do not expand by default

Hi All
We have a new Windows 2000 print server. When a user
browses to the network printers they have to expand the
server by clicking the + sign next to it to see the
printers available. This happened by default on our
previous NT server. We have read that this is a design
change in Windows 2000. If this is so is there anyway
around this? We don't think this is a NTPrint.inf problem
as we can see the printers once we click the + next to our
server.
Many thanks in advance.

I think that's correct, in Windows NT 4.0, it would list all the printers on
the network in the Add Printer Wizard. That's not necessarily a good thing,
as it can take a while. There is an option to decide whether or not to
'Expand all by default' but, actually, if you uncheck it, I think it still
lists all printers on the network. Windows 95/98/Me does not list all the
printers on the network, but then again the Print Spooler on those versions
of Windows is designed differently. There is a way to list all printers on
the network in Windows 2000. Look at the choices in the Add Printer Wizard
if you choose 'Network printer'.

'Find a printer in the directory' can be used to find a printer, but it can
also be used to list all printers on the network if you specify no search
criteria.
'Type the name of a printer, or click Next to browse for a printer' allows
you either to type the name (in \\server\share UNC format) if you know it
exactly, or browse.

Thanks
