Network Printer

I've recently upgraded an Win98 OS to Win2000. I want to
use the printer, which is local to that particular
machine, with one that is Win98. My local network works
OK, in that each machine can see the other and I can
access files from one to the other. However, when I try
to "add printer" to the 98 OS, and am asked to put the
printer cd into the drive, I keep getting a dialog box
saying that the "hardware information cannot be found".
It's been a while since I've networked a printer. Does
anybody have an idea as to what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,

I think i have the same prob. Only I'm starting at 2000. I
installed the printer on the 2000 machine and shared it
out. I also installed 98,95,ME,XP drivers for that printer
so other types of client PC's can use it. Well, when I try
to install the printer on a 98 machine it stoped and asked
for the driver disk for the pinter. It installs fine to
another 2000 PC. The 2000 PC were the printer is installed
should send down the drivers to the workstation when it
installs but it does not. I do have this working on
another 2000 machine but can't reproduce it on the other
2000 machine???? So I just decided to use jetadmin and
manually install the printer on the workstaion and have it
print directly to the IP address on the printers jetdirect
card. Do me a favor. If you figure this out email me with
the fix. Thanks.

I was trying to install a HP4500 and a Lexmark 750c. It
works when installing down to a 2000 client, but that
could be because 2000 has that driver file already. Stops
and asked for the drivers on a 98,95 client. I did install
these drivers on the 2000 machine the printer is shared
out from.
