network printer problems

I am having two problems wrt network printing.

First, there is a network printer in "printers and faxes"
which no longer exists. Windows XP will not let me
delete it. How do I get rid of this?

Second, I am trying to print to an HP PhotoSmart 1215
using IPP. The driver setup software doesn't run if the
printer is not locally connected, and I cannot locate a
proper .inf file inside the software disk for client side
printing. Is what I am trying to do possible with this
printer? If not, can somebody recommend good a good
photo quality ink jet with a less stupid driver
installation?

Thanks.

Hi,

Try opening the print queue by double clicking on the printer, you will
probably find there are print jobs waiting in the queue, cancell them and
then you will be able to delete the printer.

As to you second question I can't offer any infirmed advice on that one as I
am not familliar with the particular printer.

Perhaps, if it is possible, you might be able to temporarily connect the
printer locally to get the drver installed then change the setting in the
ports tab once you move it back to it's proper location.
A kludge I know but it might get you out of trouble.

There are no outstanding jobs in the queue; I've read other people's
(unanswered
and numerous) posts with the same issue. Attempting to delete the printer
yields "Printer connection cannot be removed. Either the printer name was
typed
incorrectly, or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server.
For
more information, click Help." And clicking Help, of course, is useless.
FWIW,
I've had this issue before with NT Workstation 4.0, way back when it was
new.
Nobody was able to offer a solution then either.

Hmmmm....

Strange, especially as I had exactly the same issue today and my method
worked.
Well, sorry I can't offer any further suggestions, If I come up with
something I will post here

Gears are ticking over kinda slowly today.....Have you tried rebooting in
safe mode and trying to delete the printer?

To delete the printer

Open the printer folder, click on File, select server properties

Delete any ports that were created when adding the printer

Hope this helps
