network printer problem

I have a small 4 computer home network. I am using simple
networking with user accounts.

2 computers have XP Professional. 1 has Windows 2000. 1 has ME.

They are networked through a Netgear wireless router. All
computers see each other and share files and folders as allowed.
I do not have a domain established for this network.

I have set 1 of the XP machines to allow several users: wife is
administrator, daughter and the grandkids as limited users. We
had some trouble with Bonzai Buddy, etc. and I do not want to
allow them as administrators.

The problem. My wife can print through my computer on the
network. When the "limited" users try to print, they are
restricted. Help talks about going to the security tab in
printers and faxes/properties. I do not have a security tab. I
have been told there is a work around, but I have not been able to
find it. What do I need to do to allow limited users to print.

Printing works fine on the ME machine, only the XP limited users
are left out.

Hi Dan,

To access the security settings locally for the printer, right-click the
printer in the printers folder (start/settings/printers) and select
properties. You may also need to disable file sharing under folder
options/view tab and set permissions on \windows\system32\spool

Rick, I genuinely appreciate the response. I followed your
suggestion. I have NO security tab or option at control
panel/printers/properties. I was told that I need a registry
workaround to get the security tab to work with my simple network.

Hi Dan,

Have you disabled simple file sharing under folder options/view tab? There
should be no need for any reg hack.

Rick,

that gave me the security tab. I don't have time to go on through
it now, but I think I can get it from here.
Thanx much.
