I am trying to use a HP printer over a home network where the printer is
connected directly to a computer with XP Professional.

4 computers that I need to access the printer.

1. One with Vista connected to a router and is able to print.

2. One with Vista wireless through same router and is able to print.

3. One with XP Professional wireless and can't print with the printer.

4. One with Vista wireless and can't print with the printer.

With 3 and 4 I get the same error 0x000003eb. I have tried using the
printer wizard but the get the same error on both machines. I have tried
setting up using IP address, different printer models - which add the
printer but can't print.

Does anyone have a solution? I don't believe it is the printer causing the
problem as everything went fine on the other 2 machines I believe it is
something to do with the OS on the other machines. I even used the reovery
disks on the Vista machine which didn't help, so I don't think re installing
XP on the other will help.

thanks of any assistance

Every PC must follow the following:

1) Be part of the same WORKGROUP

2) Be connected to same router and be using the same IP scheme (ie:
192.168.0.xxx)

3) Have the local firewall "settings" to permit File / Printing
sharing pass thru it.

4) Simple File Sharing or create a user for "each" "remote" PC on the
printer controller PC.

And XP might need a special "add-on" patch for Vista (I'm testing this
soon)
