I am system admin of win2000 server ... my company have a problem. we
have large number of users using a single printer. they give print
command and just forget that.. this leads to wastage of money, paper
and the ink. so i want that when ever a user fires a print command
its name or the ip of that computer will also print at the
start..anyone suggest the method of deploying that or some software
capable of doing so.. i shall be very grateful to that

HP JetDirect, both internal and external, can print a banner page at the
start of a print job. Where they get the username information from
Windows drivers, or whether they even have the IP address of the sending
computer, I don't know--most people find it more of a misfeature than a
feature. You can enable banners by telnetting to the JetDirect and
using the menus, or probably through JetAdmin or that horrible
WebJetAdmin.

Other brands of network print servers may or may not have a banner page.
If you have a computer serving as a print server, it would be able to
add banner pages, or even do print job accounting. Companies and
schools sometimes set up all printing to go through centralized print
servers for just that reason.
