"network path was not found" error when trying to access workstation

i have a peer-to-peer win2k network using tcp/ip with an
SMC barricade router. some, but not all, of the systems
have been losing the ability to access one another via "my
network places". tcp/ip networking is fine: i can ping
from one to another, ftp back and forth, access the
internet, etc. one system is only able to see itself and
none of the other members of the workgroup. it also sees
no other workgroups. if you try to access it from one of
the other computers it says that it is not available, "the
network path was not found". if you move it to its own
workgroup, the workgroup name appears in "entire network"
but the workgroup won't open, and there is the
same "network path" problem. i've tried shutting
everything down, rebooting the router, etc. any insight
would be much appreciated.

Check whether you have enabled NETBIOS and check the IPsec policy in 2000
server. Since you are able to ping, this might be possibly the reason.

As noted, being able to browse through, "my network places", is totaly dependent on Netbios over TCPIP and File and Print Sharing. If these are enabled
then we will want to verify WINS if it is running. If you have more than one WINS server, make sure that each one points to itself for prefered WINS server and
not to a secondary. Also if you have multihomed systems this can be a potential issue.

Troubleshooting
At a command prompted run;
nbtstat -n
Insure that there are not any conflicts.
