Throught the help of a couple of you fine folks, my new XP
laptop now sees the other computers on my home network.
Clicking on another computer icon, however, brings up the
window asking for name and password. The network doesn't
have names and passwords. How do I get past this window?

Again, special thanks for past help.

Please reply to this message in the news group (not by E-mail) with
more information to help other people understand the problem:

What version of Windows is running on the computer that you're trying
to access from the XP laptop when the name and password window
appears?

Does a default user name appear in that window? If so, what is it?

what OS are you using thrught is it only XP? anwyay XP is
prob comparing credentials on the local machine you are
trying to connnect to so when u click the icon in network
places then the XP machine looks in its local user manager
for authentic users id say try using credentilas on the xp
machine your trying to connect to hope this helps

The new item addeded to the network is a Toshiba Sattelite
laptop running XP, the other computer that I am trying to
access on the network is a pentium 4 running Windows
2000. The new XP laptop is replacing an older Toshiba
running Windows 98 and it never asked for a name or
password. The network is Linksys wireless. The fields in
the password request box are blank. There is no default.
