Network missing after user account password created on XP???

I created a user account password for privacy protection of all my
files/folders. (Owner/administrator) Now I can't see my network. I
can't add a network place or even run the network wizard to make it
come back. I can however see my workgroup NAME when searching but
that's it. Doesn't even show the individual workgroup COMPUTER names.
How can I undo this so that my network will come back?

It's not a new account, I just added password protection to the owner
account. I'm "usually" the only person using this pc & I have a
network made up of 3 pc's. I know that you have to have one account
with the same name on each pc in order to run a network so when I
start up, I see "owner" account as well as the account that has to be
the "same name" These accounts appeared before also so no change
there.

Thanks.

I have similar problems. I googled the archive of this newsgroup and
found that hundreds of people have had the same basic problem since XP
was released, and although lots of people offered advice, I have not
seen a single definitive answer from someone who knew what she was
talking about.

My guess is that adding a password to an account that did not previously
have one makes it a different account from XP's point of view, although
not from yours. I guess that the shares still belong to the old
account, and thus can't be seen by the new one.

If you changed the password on the account then you need to have an account
on each of the other machines that matches exactly - same username and
password.

You mean since people gave up their toy operating systems.

I understand what you mean by "toy operating systems".

I prefer to avoid Microsoft products altogether, but in my present job I
have inherited a bunch of them and I have to make them work.
