hi,
i got a laptop and a pc which i'm trying to 'wire' together so i can access
the internet through the pc and also share files. both are running winxp
home and are connected via cat5 cable.
i ran the network wizard and everything seemed ok.
both recognise the connection and the pc acually shows the 'laptop'
connection under 'my network places' and the shared files.
the laptop however doesn't seem able to find the 'pc' in 'my network
places'.
when i try and access the MSHOME (via windows explorer) on the laptop it
says i'm probably not authorised to access the network and it hasn't got a
list of servers.
i can access MSHOME (via windows explorer) on the pc and it shows both the
laptop and pc but it won't let me into laptop, i just get 'laptop is not
accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource....'.
i'm sure it's probably something very simple but i can't work it out!
my pc is connected to the internet via a cable modem (ntl) and has 2 network
cards installed.
the laptop has a card and i also used a pc bus card too (not sure what to
use as i just followed the diagram in pc world!).
would appreciate any help you can offer!!!
thanks!

Hello Ian
Turn off the firewalls, make sure you Local Area Connection Properties set
correctly.

Also make sure you've enabled sharing for the folders you
wish to share. If you have nothing to share, access will
be denied :-)

Once you think you've got it, reboot both machines.
