Hi All,

Having just managed to set up a wireless network between 98SE and XP
using internet connection sharing, it works fine, but sometimes cuts out
with the error "The system detected an address conflict for IP address
192.168.0.1 with the system having network hardware address
00:0C:41:12:2E:CF. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as
a result."
My XP internet machine has ip 192.168.0.1 and my client on Win98 has IP
192.168.0.2

The only other "network" is my ADSL USB modem which is a completely
different IP 80.176.x.x
Any ideas where this duplicate IP is coming from?

Cheers

Julian.

It sounds like your wireless IGD has a DHCP scope problem. Please verify
the scope settings for addressing is correctly handing out addresses from
teh 192.168.0.x range. It should not hand out .1 if the router has .1
assigned to it.

Is your wireless network unencrypted? If so, a neighbor's wireless
network could be getting mixed up with yours, and you should enable
WEP encryption.

The reported hardware address (also known as MAC address or physical
address) can help you find the source of the problem. Every
networking device has a unique hardware address, and the first 6
digits identify the manufacturer. 00:0C:41 belongs to Linksys.

Just a quick update:
I'm using wireless - I have a wireless adapter point (Linksys) plugged
in to my XP machine (Is this OK? No router etc....) and gave it the
same IP address as my network adapter- Doh! So now that has an address
of 192.168.0.3 and it seems to have solved the problem.
This networking lark is all new to me.
Thanks for the replies anyway.

Julian.
