I am currently running two computers (both XP pro) on my
home network. The desktop is in the basement, and my
notebook is upstairs. I am using a linksys wireless
router to connect the two computers and to access the
cable internet connection. The notebook uses a cisco
internal wireless card. I believe this problem started
about a month ago (perhaps after I installed the new
updates).
When I try to access files on the desktop from the
notebook, the network hangs and will show as not
responding in the task manager. If left alone, after
about five minutes, "magically" the files are accessable
and everything works as normal. I can access my networked
notebook files using my notebook without a problem. I can
even access my notebook files without a hang from the
desktop. I have re-run the network wizards on both
computers with no luck.
The problem is not just restricted to windows explorer as
well. For example, if I try to access a song file (on the
desktop from the notebook) using windows media player,
the player hangs for about five minutes...
then "magically" things work!
I have tried to describe the problem as much detail as
possible. Thanks for suggestions.
