Network hanging

X

xmen451

A Windows Update hung mid-installation. Ever since, I have not been able to
access the Internet from Microsoft-based products (IE, Excel web-queries,
Java apps that start-up through IE, etc.) I can access the net via FireFox
(as I am now). The control panel network connections panel hangs while
loading. If I open the properties window of IE from the icon directly, it
hangs as soon as I hit the Connections tab. Something is obviously screwed
up, probably in the registry, but I don't know how to proceed from here. Any
suggestions?

You might try a repair installation.

Be sure to apply these to your repair install before connecting to any
network. Internet included. (sasser, msblast)

I realise this isn't helpful in this instance but I would strongly
recommend making a backup before any Windows Update (or any other
significant system change if it comes to that).

It's easy to do with a usb-hd and a backup program such as Ghost.
