Have Vista Ultimate installed on desktop #1 and can read/share all the files
that are on desktop #2 which is running XP Pro. However, cannot read any
files that are on the Vista machine from the XP Pro machine. Have tried
everything I can think of with no luck. Any suggestions. File sharing,
etc. are all turned on properly.

Many possibilities. Can you ping the vista by ip? If yes, what do you receive if using "net use \\xpip" command? Or this troubleshooting may help,

Step by step troubleshooting VISTA sharing
1. Make sure you can see each other, for example ping. 2. Make sure you enable file sharing....

Hi

I had exactly the same problem with same 2 OS systems
via a lynksis router

it took 4 hours to microsoft tec centre on phone plus a conference call
with lynksis so sort this out

they will know have the answers in the tec centre dbase

have you still got this problem or are you out of it yet

if no then i will try to send settings

one thing to do remove !!! all third party firewalls and virus /spyware
programmes

also check you have told vista hardware to be sharing
you should see a small icon with 2 small heads
in it instead of the hand you have in XP

will look back to this forum later

cheers
