I have two Microsoft 2000 Pro computers and a XP Home on a Workgroup network.
When i try to access the XP machine from a 2000 Pro through network
connections it gives me the following error message: Logon Failiure, the user
has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

Though, from the XP, i can access the 2000 machines no problem.

Can anybody help?

Hi Edward,

On Windows XP machine open Local Group Policy console using gpedit.msc from
CMD prompt. Go to Computer Configuration >Windows Settings >Security Settings
Local Policy> User Rights Assignment and see the setting "Access this
computer from the Network". Try to give everyone initially then you can
narrow down the security once you are able to access. Also check the settings
of "Deny Access to this computer from the Network" and "Log on Locally". Hope
it works for you.

Thanks. Please can you explain how to open the Local Group Policy console
using gpedit.msc from CMD prompt?

Edward,

Gpedit.msc is a file which is available in Windows 2000 Family and Windows
XP machines. Default location is C:\Windows\System32\gpedit.msc or you can
access the same securtiy settings from Control Panel > Administrative Tools

You are right ..you wont find the file because XP Home edition doesn't have
networking features. I am not sure about this so correct me if I am wrong.
