What am I missing???? My two computers are connected via a crossover cable.
They can see each other but they just wont allow access to files, printers,
etc. I have looked and looked but I cant see what I am missing... Any
takers...
using XP on both machines - and have run the wizard with no success.

Read other messages in this forum for clues. Lots of people have
similar problems. Regretably there are no Windows experts here, but
if we are both lucky I will get my system working and share what I find.

Workgroup is the same on both machines?
Do you have the xp firewall on or off?
Do you have an identical accounts on both machines?

A computer must have something to share, if it is to be 'seen' on the network. Select a file, enable sharing with a right click, then log on again and if all is right the computer and its associated file will appear within network places / neighbourhood on the other one.

A computer may be visible in network neighborhood with no shared
resources at all (With regards to files, folders, drives and printers) -
all that will happen if you try to access that computer is that the
window will be empty (Like an empty folder).

However, obviously a computer with no shared resources is not much use
if you wish to access them :-)

I'd like to add to this, that WinNT based O/S's require a client to
remotely login to the NT computer before that computer will allow any
form of access (regardless of whether the individual shares are
passworded or not)

Also, IIRC - if you wish to share an entire drive on WinNT, then you
must create a new share for that drive - the default share is for local
users and does not have any permissions for remote users on a network.
