Scenario:
- Broadband internet access
- Network neighbourhood consisting of win 2000, 98, and NT.

Problem:
- Whole network 'time-out' everytime win2000 are connected
to the network.
- Once win2000 pcs are unplugged from the network, the
whole network runs smoothly again.
- Tried reformatting pc, but problem still persists.

That's not very precise - What role does this machine play?
(DNS server, gateway/router/ICS).

What sort of error (precisely) do you get?
Can you ping? By name or by number?
Can you connect with SIMPLE tools (like Telnet)?
- Once win2000 pcs are unplugged from the network, the
whole network runs smoothly again.

How many PCs must be unplugged?

Unless this is a DNS or Gateway server it should generally
have no effect on other machines' access to the Internet.

If it does, then this suggests a BAD NETWORK card -- which today
is a very uncommon case (circa 1988 this was reasonably common.)

Bad hub/switch/wiring might contribute to the problem.
- Tried reformatting pc, but problem still persists.

That was unlikely to have any effect and is generally a waste of
time and loss of data/configuration.
