I installed an old Win 95 program on my XP Pro computer.
When I open it, I get this message:

NETWORK: NETWORK DRIVER APPEARS TO NOT BE SERVING THIS
DIRECTORY. Then the program shuts down.

Any idea what's going on there? TIA

It sounds as though the program you installed may some change in your
drivers or network configuration. Either try uninstalling the program
through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel or use System Restore to take
your system back to a time before you had this issue. Start\All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

I just now installed the program. I'm not having any
other problems with my computer. A friend had the same
results when he tried to run this old program on his XP
machine. The program works great on a 95 or 98 machine,
but not on an XP machine. Running it in 95 or 98 mode
doesn't help, either.

TIA for any other ideas.

Everything you are telling me points to the application as the source of the
issue. Neither you nor your friend had the issue prior to installing the
application, now you do. If you remove the application, do you have this
problem? If yes, it likely changed something that is not changed by
removing it so you should try System Restore as I previously outlined. The
problem is the compatibility or lack of compatibility between this
application and XP.

The fact the program works on a 9x machine is irrelevant. XP is vastly
different under the hood than 9x. While the compatibility modes to work for
many 9x applications, if they directly access the hardware attempt to make
other configuration changes as a result of their setup, they will cause
issues.
