network driver adapter problems

Whenever I attempt to shut down my computer in the hibernation or stand by
mode, I get the following error message:

"System Hibernation Failed"
"The device driver for the 'Efficient Networks Enternet P.P.P.o.E Adapter'
device is preventing the machine from entering hibernation. Please close
all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to
update this driver."

I check the driver's properties, the update wizard says the device is
working properly, I update the driver anyway, still can't hibernate. I've
visited Microsoft's update page, no driver updates needed.

The computer works fine other than that, shuts down (normal mode) and starts
up without a hitch. Any suggestions? Is my adapter not compatable with w2k
perhaps?

Not what you want to hear, but when I had the same issue with a keyboard
driver the only solution was to wipe the drive and reinstall the operating
system.

I dont have a good solution but I get same message on my conexant modem
or on com1...I have Presario 2195 with XP Home.

I can get rid of problem by diabling either modem or both
com1....(lousy solution if you use modem a lot ....I am on network so I
do not use modem frequently)

2. Another way (temp) is that I uninstall both com1 and modem...bring
up system and it remains ok unti I shut down.

I then have same problem....as you can see I really dont have a
solution, but strange things are happening.

If anyone can find permanant fix...please let me know.

Regards,

ED
