We have several users running Windows 2000 SP4 who receive the following
error message:
"An error occurred while connecting to \\computer name\share name
Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use.
This connection has not been restored."

We've already applied the MS suggestion in KB Art. 297684 but it did not help.

We've have seen this in 4 machines so far.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

My solution isn't what people using mapped drives likes to
hear,...but,...stop using mapped drive letters. Use regular shortcuts
instead that are based on the UNC path.

Did you try opening a command prompt and typing:

net use * /d

(this will kill ALL network connections)

then remapping? I have usually found that this error happens because of
infrequent and intermittent network problems like bad cabling, servers or
NICs going up and down, etc.
