Network download problem

Please help me i really need your help. This my connection from my
linksys router to our switch the name of the switch is nortel baystack
425-24T. We dont have any server here. My problem is there is somebody
who download big files. And our internet connection will become slow.
How could i know that particular person download something. We in DHCP
server i have the list of the MAC and IP address of all users in our
office. Could anybody here give some idea of what shal i do to know who

are those person download something? Please help me... Thanx in advance

I am not familiar with that switch but if it is a managed switch you should
be able to get statistics on port use [refer to the documentation] and the
user downloading a lot would show an unusually lot of activity on his
computer's port. If that does not help the next time it happens you could
simply start unplugging computers from the port to try and track down which
port is causing the problem or watch for ports that show a lot of activity
via the indicator lights. Kind of crude and will disrupt the network for a
little bit but should work. You also might want to check the logs of your
router to see if it shows what computers are showing a lot of activity and
you may want to invest in a better internet router/firewall if yours has
limited logging. --- Steve
