Mad
I have three PC's,
One master with 100M network card XP Pro.
One laptop with 100M network card XP Home.
one relativly old PC with 100M network card XP home.
At present my Laptop is used as a firewall and a shared dial up server to my
broadband.
I connect each PC as and when i use them through a cross over cable to my
laptop.
Everything works fine.
I can access the internet from each and every PC. The laptop dialing up as
and when necessary.
I can access any shared files from any of the PC's.
the network works fine.
Layout as below.
PC ------Crossover Lan Cable ------Laptop --------BT Dialup Broadband.
I have recently bought a Linksys WRT54G wireless router to connect the three
PC's as one is going to be moved to a differnt room.
Layout as belop
WireLess ROUTER linksys WRT54G

PC PC2 Laptop------BTDailup Broadband.
Problem 1.
When I connect the router to both the Laptop and either one of the PC's
using standard Lan cables (Not cross over ones!).
None of the network works.
The router acknowledgeds all connections, but i was unable to share or even
see any of the other computers.
I have read the manual cover to cover, no answers, I have upgraded the
firmware of the router as per Linksys.
I have changed the router to act as a gateway, still nothing.
PC2 will eventuall be a wireless connection but at the moment is hardwired.
All network cards are set up as follows.
TCP/IP & NWLink IPX/SPX protocalls.
Client for Microsoft Networks
File & Print sharing for microsoft networks.
I have tried using just TCP/IP on its own and IPX/SPX on its own.
They are all set up to auto recieve their own IP addresses automatically.
I have turned off ALL firewalls, windows, Nortons and the routers. still
none of it works.
I then tried changing all the network card to the same workgroup name. and
reinstalling the routers firmware upgrade.
Now.
I can share files now through the router, but i still can access the
internet.
when i use the internet from the laptop, the conection still dials up as
required.
when i use the internet from the other PC's i just get nothing,
The page cannot be displayed ectect.
however if i swap back to using the crossover cable
everything works fine again,
I can share files and access the internet from any computer.
any ideas as to why i cant access the internet when using the router.
I am unable to plug my broadband conection in to the router as is a usb
broadband modem and not a Lan modem.
any help would be apreciated as i'm stumped.
cheers
