Network & Dialup Connections empty

Win2k sp updated
I have 2 lan connections and a pci card.
Was having problems with the pci card drivers/software so uninstalled its
software and the device. On rebooting Network connections folder was empty.
Both the Lan and PCI connections are still functioning and I have full
internet / Workgroup access, but I'm still unable to populate the folder
with the connections.
Have googled without result, any ideas?
