Mine is a DELL Inspiron 5100 Notebook with WINDOWS-XP home
edition. I have a lan connection with a static ip address,
I was able to connect to the network with out a problem
until last week. I am not sure what happened, since then I
am unable to connect to the INTERNET. Ping to my gateway
is successful and the SYSTEM DETECTS network connectivity.
But when I try to conect to thE INTERNET, it says "CANNOT
FIND THE SERVER". My network connection is ok because I am
able to connect to the network using same cable and ip on
my desktop. Ie., I swap the connection between my desktop
and notebook. Please reply. Thanks in advance.

It looks like alot of us are having the same problem.
Mine stopped last wednesday. YOurs??

I'm having exactly the same problem. I think the problem
originated when some spyware attemted to load on my
system. The code appears to have screwed up the registry
somehow. I tried reseting the tcp/ip stack using netshell
utility as explained in KB article #299357. It didn't help.

Mine went down this morning. Only thing I did notice beforehand was
the problems Outlook was having opening. Maybe a virus scan might
reveal something. I tried with the Office XP disk to repair the
Outlook issue but to no avail. I rebooted my computer but am unable
to get back on the net. I have total accesss with all the other
computers in the office but mine is the only XP OS.

This has to be XP related and not all in my head :)

I found that my TCP/IP filtering was unchecked and that checked
followed by a reboot put me back online.
