I have seen question posted elsewhere but no solutions. Window XP Pro. When
I click Icon for network connections it takes appr 30 seconds to open. On
another (similiar) machine it only takes about 3 seconds. Both are on a peer
to peer Windows network with some Win98 systems along with XP Pro's.
Thanks.

I always had the same problem. I found out that when
using my dsl the dialup also kicks in. In network
connections I disabled my dialup modem. Then rest setting
to make sure dialup wasn't active. In internet options
under connection make sure your tab is on never dial a
connection. make sure your not on a dialup connection in
the box where connection devices are you can only test
this by remove a message appears "are you sure you want
to remove this dialup" will appear if your dialups active
say yes then go to where lan setting is check box
automactly detect network seting. go up to the setup on
top (same page) and do another setup. click i want to
connect to internt, next- then i want to set up manually
using cable, dsl etc next- type isp name like yahoodsl, or
plain dsl or plain "cable" next- type email exactly like
it is on your main account. password, and there will be 3
checked boxes below that UNCHECK FIREWALL on this. next
check box place on desktop. then all is good auto done.
also make sure your temp cookies are deleted not many
know this. go to start, my computer, C drive click
propeties, under windows look for cookies. then select
all delete only one file should remain and is denied
deletion called DAT FILE. then make sure using correct
browser in internet option under general the http://
should have your isp address only.
i hope this helps. if its still slow this is a good
indecation a hidden virus in system somewhere. update
virus defination and scan whole system it wont pick up
bugs or worms though. oh 1 more thing hows your memory?
check it by giong to my compter, in c drive just place
mouse over it then the detail of your space will
highlite. ok hope this is what your lokin for if need
more help email me ty
