Network connections service lost

I have some how lost The netork connections folder, network activity icons, dial up networking etc. There appears to be an error concerning the RPC and svchost.exe in "system32". All this is way over my head.... Any thoughts on how to restore these items would be much appreciated
 
try a search in this ng , or google for 'RPC' or 'svchost' errors - probably
get umteen hits relating to Mblaster virus!!
