To all:

I cannot turn off my dial-up connection at will once I am
connected without turning off my computer because there
is no icon showing up in my task bar to do this (checked
all settings that affect this); I'm referring to the one
that looks like one computer downloading to another
computer. I called Dell since they are the provider of
my OEM Windows XP software & the technician said the
problem is that I have nothing showing up under my
Network Connections Folder (some file(s) must have been
deleted). We tried System Restore & Roxio Go Back but
they did not help. He said I would have to find a
Windows XP repair disk?!? Does anyone out there have any
easier suggestions or solutions? Thank you.

Ken,

How do I make sure that my Network Connections Service &
Remote Access Connection Manager services are running?
Also, currently, there is nothing showing up under the
Network Connections Folder at all. Thank you for your
help.

First make sure that your Network Connections Service and Remote Access
Connection Manager services are running. If they are then compare the LAN
connections in the connections folder with the Network Adapter drivers in
device manager. If there is a Network Adapter driver that doesn't have a
corresponding connection in the connections folder then try reinstalling it.

Select Run from your Start menu, type "services.msc" in the box, and hit OK.

Find the services in question in the list and see if they say started in the
status column.
