network connections disappear

Hi,
I asked this question some time ago in the general group,
but never got a fix. When I go to the Network Connections
folder the connections are not visible. If I add a new
dialup connection, I am able to create it, but it
disappears too. I plug the laptop into the LAN, the
network does work. The network connection service is
running. I've Installed SP1 and all the latest updates,
but still the same. Gotta be a better answer from MS than
format C and start over! But that's where I am. Thanks for
any help.

A little more info... I'm running XP Home Edition. If I
try to refresh the network connections folder I get this
error message "The Network Connections folder was unable
to retreive the list of network adaptors on your machine.
Please make sure your Network Connections service is
enabled and running." As I said in the previous message
the service is Enabled and Running.

First make sure that your Network Connections Service and Remote Access
Connection Manager services are running. If they are then compare the LAN
connections in the connections folder with the Network Adapter drivers in
device manager. If there is a Network Adapter driver that doesn't have a
corresponding connection in the connections folder then try reinstalling it.

Thanks for the response. But NO connections appeared in
the connections folder, even newly created dialup
connections as I said. The services were running. I
upgraded to XP Professional and that fixed it without a
format.

Larry, I have the very same problem but it's in XP professional. Additionally, the computer connection icons do not show on the taskbar. Did you try re-loading the XP home before upgrading to XP Pro
