Network connection dropping randomly

I have an interest problem and I have run out of ideas.

Here is the situation. I have a workstation that monitors several other
servers. The way this is done is by having about 10 or so RDP windows open
and place all over the screen. I also have few other connections opened. One
is a putty session connected to a Unix server. After a while of not touching
the workstation I will notice that the RDP windows are no longer refreshing.
As soon as I click on the RDP window the connection seems to be
re-established and the screens refresh and continue as normal. I check my
other connections and some are lost, ie putty -unix connection.

So it almost seems as the connection is being put on stand-by or being lost
or something.

Here is what I have checked out recently to try and resolve the problem. I
thought I had found the problem when I went into the Network Card Power
Management tab and unselected "Allow the computer to turn off this device to
save power.". This did not resolve the issue.

Now I do not think the issue is anything to do with a specific software
setting in either RDP, Putty or anything else because I seem to lose my
connection with every piece of software.

The network card seems to be connected fine. I have Cisco VPN installed on
the system but it is not connected when I have these issues.

Any ideas?

Question? Why are you using RDP to "monitor" your servers? There are several
applications that can be bought or downloaded for free that you can use to
monitor your servers. This software lets you know whether or not you actually
have to "RDP" to the server to fix issue. I know of one called Nagios that is
fairly easy to set up.

Well, they are using monitoring tools on the PCs they are RDPing to. It's on
a different network segment and there are a few firewall issues. Apprently
the client decided to run the monitoring tools on their PC and we RDP in and
keep an eye on things from there.
