network connection drop!!!!

We have multiple applications running on the window 2003 server. The end
users (window2000 pro) of our application inform their connection gets
dropped or application’s freeze intermittently for no reason. I test
out the connection from a couple of PCs in our intranet by connecting
to those applications and found out the connection gets dropped
periodically also. From the test connections I ran, it can last from 45
minutes to 3 hours before it gets dropped. From time to time they get
the following error message when applications are open or not in used:

“the connection to the company files has been lost. Perhaps there has
been a problem with the computer on which Q;\xxxxx\xxxxxx…resides.
Please restart and try again.”

OR

“Windows was unable to save all the data for the file
\Device\LanmanRedirector\File-server\xxxx\xxxx.QBI. the data has been
lost. This error may be caused by failure of your computer hardware or
network conncection.”

Other applications indicated similar errors message. I normally closed
out apps or do End Task and restart apps.

I have tried the following method still not working:

Net config server to adjust time out
Ping servername –t to see session drop
Reinstall application in different file directory
Use static ip instead dynamically
Edit registry in parameters to autodisconnect-1
Checked administrative tools from server to make software security at
NOT DEFINED.
I assume PERSISTENT:YES wouldn’t help

ANY IDEA WHAT'S WRONG? :-(

Hi Netman,

Couple of things we've seen causing this. One is something called GoBack software on the
system. Another item we've seen cause this is Compaq's Smart Array driver. Use the
Windows 2000 "in-box" driver resolved the problem.

Be sure your page file has enough room to expand. Low disk space could also cause this.
Most likely caused by third party privers or software. Check the server over carefully and
disable/uninstall any you do not really need and test. Possibly your backup software is
preventing files ot be updated while your backup software is taking a snapshot. Just some
things to check that should help you narrow this down.

Thanks,
Gary
