A friend has a small office with two PC's connected with a D-link
router for networking and sharing a broadband connection. After a long
weekend (PC's stay on) one PC is fine but the second has lost all
connectivity. He replaced the network card and it shows up fine in
Device Manager. Tried changing cables, etc. The one PC is fine, the
other dead. He went through the Internet Setup again, same thing. Even
did a restore to an earlier date. When he tries to go to IPCONFIG from
the Run command the program flashes but then closes.

He's running McAfee 6 with the latest updates, downloaded from the
other PC. No problems. However when he runs System Restore he get's a
Hostile Script alert. Any suggestions on what might be causing the
problem? Thanks.

It always does. Try run, cmd, then type ipconfig /all in the cmd window.
Or for the techno-geeks, start, run, 'cmd /k ipconfig /all' (no quotes).

Thanks to all for the advice. I'll pass it on. As for ipconfig I was
thinking of winipcfg in Win 98, which apparently isn't included in XP.
At this point the PC is so trashed from failed fixes....including a
re-install of XP....that it looks like a reformat/reinstall is the
only option left. I still can't help but wonder if some type of virus
wasn't responsible for the problem, though I suppose there could be
any number of other causes. Thanks again.

I have a d-link wireless router. It goes wonky sometimes. Sometimes I
have to log into it by remote and reboot it.. or just walk into the room
where it is kept and unplug it and then plug it back in a min later.
