I get the following error message when I log on: "THere is an IP address in
conflict with antoher system on the network."

I can close the error message and use the computer. Operations appear
normal. I have a wireless-G broadband router on the system that is unsecure
- i.e. it is not passwrod protected.

How do I cure this problem? Thank you.

The message means what it says. There is a device (possibly another
computer) that is using the same IP as another device on the same network.
Each networked device should have its own unique IP.

The message is expected and desired when there are duplicate IPs. Access to
the network may be restricted or you may notice poor performance until the
conflict is resolved.

Why not secure the router? You'll be in control of the devices accessing
the router and can use that control to adjust their IPs if necessary.

Another thought: Typically, ICS uses the same base IP as most routers. The
IP for ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) is fixed and cannot be changed. If
using a router and ICS, if the router config allows it - change the IP
range in the router. Otherwise, disable ICS and connect other
computers/devices in your household to the router (wired or wireless).

Info on ICS and the IP numbers it uses:
