Hello all,

I have saved a 2200DN from an office where they were throwing it away.

I have installed it over USB and I saw there was a network port.

How do i configure it to use this port instead so I can plug it directly on my switch and not worry about it ?

I'm totally new on this (IP printers) so I don't know how it works, does the printer have a default IP which I have to access from the network ?

I have checked on HP's site but bsides drivers I could not find anything special.

Thanks a lot for the help

On most printers, you can do it from the front panel or from the
built-in web server, through JetAdmin software, or by telnetting to the
printer. The 2200 doesn't really have a front panel (IIRC), so the
first choice is out.

You should be able to send print jobs in on any of the ports and the
printer will just handle it.

Just like a computer, it gets an address from DHCP or has a static
address you manually assign. You should be able to see that address and
all the current network settings by printing out a configuration page.

Thanks for the reply,

The problem is that the printer is NOT responding to any network
command, I can't ping it since I don't know what it's IP is and when I
print the test page from XP using the USB cable it gives me nothing on
the IP config.

What is the "default" IP for the printer when it's booting from factory
mode ?

Is there a reset switch i could punch and then try to enter the printer
setup and THEN assing it to the IP I want ?...

I'm reasonably good on networks but I don't know how to adress
something I can't see on the network...

Thanks again

The Windows test page is not a config page. Go to hp.com and download
the LaserJet 2200 User Guide. In there, it says to print the
configuration page, you press the Go and Job Cancel at the same time and
then release them.

The 2200DN is either going to be getting a DHCP address or will be set
to a static address from where it was being used before you got it.

This is probably in the User Guide, although I don't see it.

JC-

Some HP printers will reset to factory defaults if you hold down the
Online/Offline or Pause/Resume button while turning on the power.

There is a chance that the default will be to use DHCP to obtain an IP
address from the network router. If your network is set up that way, then
you can try using a web browser to connect to IP addresses starting with
the router's default (such as http://192.168.10.1), and increase the last
digit by one until you connect to the printer's network card. If
successful, you should be able to complete the setup process there.
