I just got an older computer running with an AMD K-6 500 MHz. The
network card that came with the computer was connected via PCI and
had
a little wire that ran directly to the motherboard. I've never seen
this before. When I tried to swap it with my Wi-Fi PCI card the
computer wouldn't boot. When I take it out though it works fine.
Any
ideas on whats going on?

Thank You,

the pci slot may not be compliant with the newer card been a long time but I
think the older boards were like 1.1 and the newer boards are 2.0. So you
can see the problem. Your card is probably 2.0.

I would guess the mobo is set to boot from a LAN. Go into the bios and check
boot order and change it if necessary.

That is just the Wake on Lan. It isnt your problem.

Try another PCI slot for the WiFi card, some of
those older systems were a bit inflexible with IRQ use.

Its possible its got the older PCI slots and the new card has the later one.

The wire is for WOL. Wake on LAN. It is rare to find NICs that have this
anymore.
