I had ADSL Dialup working ok on my PC. I installed a
3c905tx network card, it seemed to install OK, but after
reboot network was corrupted and even the old ADSL dial
up connection was corrupted and would not work. When this
happens Explorer.exe eats memory until the PC dies. Even
taking the card out after this happens does not then make
the old network connections work. I then used system
restore and tried a new different make of card - same
thing. BTW - XP Home edition was fully patched using MS
active update site. For a different reason, PC died. I
reinstalled over the top, fully patched and then tried
net cards again - same thing. I then bought a new HDD,
installed net card, installed windows from scratch and
then fully patched and the network works! Now, I have
just bought a wireless net card. I went to install today
(on my rebuilt machine that was running great and was
fully patched with all networks working OK) and the same
thing happened as described above. It seems to me that
installing a new net device after upgrading windows
causes it to go wrong - but what is it? I cannot rebuild
PC every time I do this (it takes all day). Can anybody
help?
