network card disabled (iIntermittent)

My boss has problem (transffered it to me) on windows 2000 pro (SP3) with
disabled network card. This problem occur intermittent.
In event log I can't find useful info. I have lates antivirus dats.
Any ideas ?

He should have SP4 and the ms03-039 patch installed. Check that first. He
might be blasted.

sounds like a duplicat ip address on the network, which ever sys boots first grabs that ip (static, right?) that or a bad cable or nic, i suggest chk for dup address, if not replace nic w/know good, then cable

Is this related to a VPN connection?

No, DHCP (should be, has right to change it - will check).
Cable or NIC shoul be OK?, NIC is not disconnected.

Not sure (PC has configured VPN connection for test purpose), but usually
never uses this connection as it is on the LAN.
