I messed up something on my pc. It was working fine. I'm not sure what I did
but when I start internet explorer I can't get to the network. I think I
entered some setting wrong somewhere. I don't get a page not found error, I
get:
No connection to the internet is currently available. To view internet
content that has been saved on you computer, click Work Offlline. Click Try
Again to attempt to connect.

The network card is working OK, driver's fine. What might this be????????

Is your connection to internet working (i.e. can other programs connect to
internet)?

One way for checking it is to open start->run, write cmd.exe (or command.exe
if you're using ME/9x) and press OK. A "black-screen" will popup. Write
"ping www.google.com" (without "") and press enter. Are you getting
"response from *someip*" or an error message (timeout)?

If that works, then your proxy server might be wrongly set in Internet
Explorer.

I can't ping. This is a DSL modem and it works fine on another pc. Worked
fine on the problem pc until I deleted my old RAS connection from Network
Connections. I don't have a modem hookded up so I didn't need it. I think I
screwed up some TCP/IP setting. If I click on Properties for the Local Area
Network it says I'm connected. I think it gets to the router and no further.
I didn't change anything on the router or the modem. It really looks like my
internet attempts are being directed to some connection other than my
network card - it shows it's running with zero packets sent/received.

It's an external router with a "network cable between it and your computer",
right?

Is the IP address correctly set (try with DHCP/ "Automaticly get the IP
address" if you are uncertain)?

And... Have you payed the internet fee? ;-)

Under Advanced TCP/IP settings it says DHCP Enabled. ipconfig at the cmd
prompt tells me ip address is 0.0.0.0

Hm... Something is wrong here... 0.0.0.0 is not a legal IP. Have you tried
to puch the "repair" button (don't belive that will work, though)? Is TCP/IP
enabled?

And, is the network card working correctly? You can try to remove it first
and then restart Windows to let Windows reinstall it... You can also try to
download new drivers, in case that the old drivers is corrupt.

Reinstalled the driver - no luck. If I had a RAS connection to get to my
office PC with a modem and a LAN connection for my normal DSL internet
access, where would I see which of these connections would be used by
internet explorer as a default?
