Network cable distance

I just installed a new computer on my network. Ethernet
cable distance is about 200 feet. The new computer works
fine close to the network switch and the old one works at
the 200 foot end, but the new one will not work at the 200
foot end. Is there some wtting in Windows XP that allows
for poor signal strength?

The maximum length of an Ethernet cable is 328 feet, so your cable
length is fine.

Try configuring the new computer's network card to connect at the 10
Mb speed. A cable that's damaged or improperly wired can work fine at
10 Mb and fail at the higher 100 Mb speed. This web page shows how to
