I've got wireless microwave (not 802.11x) highspeed
internet from a local provider here in CO. However, after
having worked flawlessly for a week or so, XP Pro is now
all of a sudden showing the network cable as being
disconnected (which it definitely isn't) and I've got no
internet connectivity. Also, I've got no light on the back
of my NIC which otherwise usually indicates a link.

Using that exact same cable and plugging it into my work
laptop works just fine.

I had been using the built-in NIC on my Abit IS7
motherboard (a 3Com, I believe) which had been working
just fine. In my dispair over that not working, I bought a
brand new Microsoft NIC (MN-130) and installed that (incl.
drivers). Exact same problem - the NIC appears enabled and
as working in device manager, but says the network cable
is disconnected.

Please, someone, help! As mentioned above, this stopped
working all of a sudden without any HW/SW changes - and
the cable (and other cables I've tried) works just fine on
my laptop.

thx,
Klavs

I already did that, sort of. That is, as I wrote in my
initial post, I brought another computer (my work laptop)
to the box and connected it using the same cable - which
worked just fine including the green link light.

I have the very same problem running at home a linksys
802.11b, other computers in network work just fine, but
one running windows XP (e machine using Realtek rtl8139),
does not work. the connection led blinks eventually for
that connection and the connection comes and goes. poping
up a cable unplugged message.
