Hi,

We have problems sharing files between a home PC (XP home) and a business
laptop (w2k).

The latter is member of a win2k domain while at the office, but of course
not connected to that network at home.

Within the home network, the PC and the laptop can ping themselves (even by
name). But the network cannot be browsed, nor does the "map network drive"
possibility work.

Is this a "feature" of the win2k domain, or is there a solution to get file
sharing to work in this situation?

TIA for any suggestions,

Actually, it's a "feature" of XP Home. If you had an XP Pro machine you
could create a local account that matched your domain logon account on the
other computer and pass thru the authentication. XP Home does not have these
features. If you could log onto the work laptop (vs the domain logon) you
could enable the Guest account, but you'd need a local admin logon to to
that. Don't try to change the work laptop's workgroup to match your Home
computer. It won't help, you'll lock yourself out, and have to explain why
you did it to the IT manager when you get to work.

Create the same username and password of the laptop on the XP home computer, so that both computers use the same username to share. this link may help,

Thank you all for the quick replies.

The various workarounds suggested and links provided all look very sound.

We'll try them ASAP and I'll report what works.

Thanks again,
