Right now I have a linksys wireless router downstairs, and the laptop I'm
using runs Windows XP Pro. I want to be able to bridge the wireless NIC and
the wired NIC on my laptop so I can go online with my computer also running
Windows XP Pro.
To clarify:
Wireless Router (AP) --[wireless connection]-> Laptop --[wired ethernet
connection]-> computer
I bridged the wireless and wired NIC on the laptop, and I was able to go
online fine. But when I plugged the ethernet connecting the laptop to the
computer, and enable "Obtain IP automatically", hoping that the computer
would get an IP by DHCP from the router, I get an IP conflict.
How would i go about resolving this issue?
Thanks in advance!
Run the "ipconfig /release" command on the computer.
What IP address does it say has a conflict? What else on the network
has that IP address?
The Laptop and the Computer are having IP address conflicts. Also, when i
run ipconfig /release on the Computer, it says that the IP has already been
released.
Hmm, I don't see how a released IP address can cause a conflict.
What exactly is the IP address? Run "ipconfig /all" on both computers
and find out what network adapter has that address.

Alright, I ran - netsh bridge set adapter 1 enable - and - netsh bridge set
adapter 2 enable - (1: wireless card, 2: LAN adapter) in cmd on the laptop,
so the bridge is working and I am able to access the internet on the laptop.
ipconfig /all on the laptop shows:
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name : kaabob
Primary Dns Suffix :
Node Type : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled : Yes
WINS Proxy Enabled : No
Ethernet adapter Network Bridge (Network Bridge):
Connection-specific DNS suffix :
Description : MAC Bridge Miniport

Dhcp Enabled : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled : Yes

However, on my computer, after ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, i
still get IP conflict errors. Here's what the computer shows:
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name : ham
Primary Dns Suffix :
Node Type : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled : No
WINS Proxy Enabled : No
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS suffix :
Description : SiS 900-Based PCI Fast

Physical Address : xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx
Dhcp Enabled : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled : Yes
IP Address : 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask : 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway :

Another thing worth noting, the IP address conflict notification keeps
popping up on the Laptop when I leave this configuration like this.
Any ideas?
