Hi paul

I am new to this backup field,

I have backup tapedrive in windows 2000 machine and i am using native
windows ntbackup utility todo backup

I am wondering whether it is possible to backup other LAN windows 2000
pro pc's at particular time.

the task is like this

switch on all the pc's at particular time,
backup the folders,
then shutdown the pc

so far i have succeeded to switch on the pc's remotely at scheduled
time,
then we can map the folder to local drive

howto check whether backup of that pc is over or not?
howto shutdown the pc remotely?

while retrieving back the datas from the tape drive, it takes huge
time to read the tape, how do i avoid this

Can anyone help me

The suggested way to backup user data on a domain is to set up "home"
folders for each user that only that user (in some companies they add
permission for the admin) has permission to. Train your users to open from
and save to their mapped home drive. Using login scripts to map drives will
allow the user to log into any computer in the domain and have the drive
mapped to their home folder.
Then all you have to do is backup the server. No need to worry about users
not leaving on computers. Less network traffic during the backup and it
should take less time.
