I am a long time user of Windows 2000. I recently upgraded
to Xp Pro and everthing seems to be going fine. There are
two things that have been bugging me though. It would be
great if somebody could give me a few pointers on the
follwing.

1) When i lock my computer and come back after an extended
period of time i find that the Network Connection has
somehow been suspended. It gives a messsage that the
network is available after i Unlock the computer. This is
really annoying as i need the network to work even if i
keep the machine locked for two or more years!! I tried to
look for any power management or other setting to prevent
this but i was unable to find one.

2) When i specify some image file to be setup as my
desktop background the icon names are displayed within a
box the color of my background!!! I tried everything i
could think of but i just couldn't get the icon names to
be displayed with the desktop background. finnaly i gaveup
and am now using only a plain colored background. Trust me
Plain backgrounds are better that those with icon
backgrounds with different colors!!!.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks 4 ur reply. Well For my network problem, i tried
all what u suggested before i posted my question. The
problem is i Couldn't find any power related settings on
the configure tab of my NIC. I cannot find that paticular
option even in device manager for any device. It's almost
as if Microsoft has removed this option which was present
in windows 2000!!!. The only option that i can see that's
even close is one called " Link Down Power Saving " in the
advenced tab of my NIC's Property page. This is set to
disable. All this is really annoying because i have some
critical apps that need to running when my PC is locked at
night which need network access.

As for my second problem, think of your desktop. U set ur
background to some plain Color, say Black. U do this by
setting the background to "None" and setting the color to
black right? Now we have totally black background and all
is fine. Later on we need see a nice picture and decide to
set that as our wallpaper. We do this by either right
clicking on it and selecting "set as wall paper" or
browsing the file through desktop properties. In either
case once the picture is in place our problem begins. Now
we see that our picture is there but the names of the
icons are displayed within a box which is the color of our
desktop background which we used earlier, in this case
black!! got it? So basically it turns out that we have
Squared Gaps in our wallpaper which really spoils the
effect. What would be nice to happen is that the Names of
the icons should appear in front of the background picture
instead of in seperate colord boxes. Hope u got my problem.

Thanks.
