I have had a network with ICS running under ME but have
added a new main computer running Home XP. I cannot get
ICS to work. My main computer and two other machines are
connected (running ME and 98) through a hub. After the
wizard failed to make things happen I set static IP
addresses on the two other machines 192.168.0.3 and
192.168.0.5 (Subnet 255.255.255.0 through out) and with
gateway 192.168.0.1 and they can share files and printers
but not gain internet access. The network bridge is
192.168.0.1 includes a Local Area Connection and the two
other machines ping to it. I have a USB cable modem to
Local Area Connection 6 (81.99.23.168. What can I do to
get ICS to work

Do you mean you moved ICS to the new main computer running XP Home?
Can the new main computer see the internet ok?
Do the ICS client PCs ever get an IP address from the server pc?

Make sure there's no network bridge between the USB port to the modem and
your internal network.
Turn off IC firewall on the ICS server.
If you're running Zone Alarm free version, it doesnt support ICS. The paid
version requires configuration to allow it.
If you've set static addresses on any of the pcs, make sure you've added the
ISP DNS servers too (setting DNS to 192.168.0.1 may work)
I don't know if your ISP works like mine, but MAC addresses have to be
recognised at network discovery time before the internet becomes available.
Ive never had a usb modem but there may be a way to spoof mac address with
this too.

Many thanks - I have wasted days on this.
Once I set the ISP DNS server to 192.168.0.1 it all
worked. For information - the modem is enabled, shared
and firewalled (XP Hone version) and is not bridged.
