Hi All,

As you know, eventually I managed to connect my 2 computers
into network.
I was able to do it when I shut down the AVG antivirus program
on both machines: Win XP PE and Win 98 SE.
However an antivirus program is necessary, especially now when
I'd like to connect one of the computers to the Internet.

Could you advise me please any solution how to be able to keep
an antivirus program on and be able to transfer files between the
computers. I'm looking for a freeware software only.

Regards
Mat

Simply install and run AVG on all systems.

Disable XP's firewall on the guest system or you won't be able to share
files and printers.
Enable it only on the PC that you use to connect to the internet.

Don't know what to tell you in that case.

This is what I have. Get the free version. Numerous updates and hasn't
missed yet.

I run it on both my networked machines both with XPPro.

I have found that the XP built-in firewall will not allow the network to
work if it is enabled. I think it can only be enabled on the host
machine, but will stop the network.

There should not be any issues with this configuration. Whatever actually
caused your configuration problems, AVG (used it for ages on an ICS
computer) and other antivirus progs do not inherently conflict with ICS.
Firewalls can block ICS.
