Network Adapter that stops working everyday

We have a home user who's Network Adapter just stops working. We have to go to Device Manager and run Update driver every day. A new compaq machine with W2k and we had the same problem with another computer that we gave him. He has Checkpoint VPN, Office 2k, nothing out of the ordinary, he has Verizon DSL as a backup and optonline connected directly to a cablemodem

Have you tried a different card (a different manufacturer...) Is it the same
card that was in his old computer?
