Network adapter removal

Morning. In our attempts to get 2 XP Home Edition computers to talk to each other, we have had the issue of 2 network adapters conflicting. One has the addresses and the other doesn't have any info. We've tried to disable the second one, but the machine still sees it. We've tried removing it, but as soon as the computer is rebooted, it's back.
Where do we go from here?

Just disable the adapter in device manager.
