hi. I'm trying to fix up my husband's computer which is slow. He is using XP.
I thought maybe I should update the adapter drivers and when I looked in
device manager, it shows 3 adapters but none of them are the one we are
actually using. I asked to scan for new hardware and the result was nothing.

Device manager shows the adapters are:
6T04 Adapter
Atheros xxx
Realtek xxx (I think this is the old one)

The one we are using now is a Netgear WG111v2 etc.

On my computer (vista) I was able to see this under network adapters and
could have updated the driver from there.

Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Install the drivers for the Netgear. Get them from Netgear's website for
that model NIC. After you install the drivers, the Netgear NIC will show up
in Device Manager.

BTW, most slowness in Windows machines is not caused by NIC drivers. It is
usually caused by malware. You may have already done all that
troubleshooting, but just in case here are some links that may be of use:

Thanks and will do!

I have gone over it for malware but it can't hurt to check again. Thanks for
the links.

Um. I guess I got confused ;-) My computer has a wireless access point. His
computer is plugged into the router. There are no drivers etc for the router.
There is a firmware update but I don't think I want to try that. So, that is
not the problem.

I used the links you sent and have done or do use most of the suggestions.
He has ad-aware, zone alarm and avg so his computer is clean. It is just
really really slow. I have used Glary utilities to clean it up and it was
better for a while, but now, slow again. Maybe I should take this to another
forum. Thanks for your help!

Maybe it would have been better if you'd started by describing your problem
and the system instead of just asking about drivers.

You don't need to install any drivers for a router. You need to install
drivers for hardware in your computer.

If you want help, it's fine to post in this newsgroup (this is not a
"forum"), but please be more descriptive. These links will help with that:
